Tributes made to flag, veterans

Paying tribute to the American flag and the veterans who have served under its banner, approximately 100 people heard our country’s praises on Sunday evening in the Coliseum.
With an array of patriotic songs, members of the audience were treated to songs played by a 40-piece band and an 80-member choir.
There were marches the band played, stirring songs sung by the choir, and sing-alongs that the audience participated in.
There were also scores of veterans who marched into the Coliseum, following one of the four branches of service in which they served. They were greeted with standing ovations.
Organizer Randall Terry, the minister of music at Morningside Baptist Church, said the others who assisted with the event wanted to get the community involved in honoring America, God’s grace and the veterans and armed forces personnel who ensure our freedoms.
This was the second year the event was held.
“We’re building on it every year,” Terry said.
