Bainbridge High School Lady Cats senior swimmer and four time high-point award winner and state qualifier Sunnie Chason signed a swimming scholarship Monday with Albany’s Darton College Lady Cavaliers.

Looking on as she signed in the BHS media center were her parents Bubba and Carolyn Chason, Lady Cats and Bearcats swim coach Keith Midler, Lady Cavaliers swim coach Molly Gilbert, BHS principal Tommie Howell and BHS guidance councilor Barbara Murrah.

Chason was Region 1-AAAA champion in the 100-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke all four years.

Coach Midler and coach Gilbert both had words of praise for Chason.

”Sunnie Chason has been at the top level since day one,” Midler said. “It’s been a pleasure to have been a small part of her success and I wish her the best as she moves to the next level. I have no doubt she will do well.

“Sunnie started swimming 10 years ago, the same time I started coaching the Bainbridge-Decatur County YMCA Extreme swim team and she has been performing outstanding every year.

“She won countless awards on the local, regional and state level during her years with the Extreme.”

I know Sunnie is a very good swimmer and we are excited about having her in our program,” added coach Gilbert.
