Funeral services for Bernice Harper, 68, of Bainbridge, were held Sunday, March 21, at Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Adolph Noble officiating.

Interment followed in Jonas Lobe Cemetery with Kregg Close, Xavier Close, Carl Floyd, Keith Floyd, Donald Green and David Price serving as active pallbearers.

Born June 26, 1941, in Bainbridge, Mrs. Harper died on Tuesday, March 16, 2010, at Archbold Medical Center in Thomasville, Ga.

Sister Harper was an active member of Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church. She was a member of the Pride of Bainbridge Order of the Eastern Star Chapter No. 479.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph L. Harper Sr.; her brother, Willie James Sampson; her sister, Hattie Lou Green; and her son, Joseph L. Harper Jr.

Survivors include a sister, Ruth Parris of Rochester, N.Y.; seven daughters, Cynthia Harper Green, Gwendolyn Harper Gilbert, Retha Harper Green and Joan Harper Coleman, all of Bainbridge, Deborah Harper Hogan of Noblesville, Ind., Jacquelyn Harper Sanders of Wilmington, Del., and Beverly Harper of Atlanta, Ga.; five sons, Eddie Harper, Bobby Samuel, Willie Harper and James Harper, all of Bainbridge, and Larry Harper of Jacksonville, Fla.; a special grandson, Comothial Harper; a special niece, Paula Parris; and a host of grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Guyton Brothers Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
