Willie McCalvin

Funeral services for Willie Ruth Sanders McCalvin, 90, of Donalsonville, Ga., were held on Sunday, March 7, at the Chapel of Evans-Skipper Funeral Home in Donalsonville with Dr. Ron McCaskill, and the Revs. Andy Merritt and Eric Boomer officiating.

Interment followed in Friendship Memorial Gardens with James Turner, Marty McCalvin, Ricky Martin, Ridgeway Stone, Ivey Hill and Bubba Chance serving as active pallbearers.

Born Feb. 22, 1920, in Houston County, Ala., Mrs. McCalvin died on Friday, March 5, 2010, at Southeast Alabama Medical Center.

Mrs. McCalvin was a homemaker and well known for her poetry that she wrote for The Donalsonville News. She had also been a member of the Garden Club and was a member of the Donalsonville First Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Luther McCalvin; three brothers, Clyde Sanders, John Sanders and Charles Tew, and two sisters, Claudia Richardson and Clemmie Sanders.

She is survived by a son, Joe McCalvin of Donalsonville; four daughters, Nellie Lynn of Donalsonville, Shirley Oder and Betty Hill, both of Tallahassee, Fla., and Elizabeth Keen of Dothan, Ala.; two brothers, Lee Sanders of Toms River, N.J., and George Sanders of Mexico Beach, Fla.; 16 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren and three-great-great-grandchildren.

Evans-Skipper Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
