A funeral service for J.H. “John” Tillis, 75, of Climax, Ga., was held Monday, March 8, in the chapel of Ivey Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Johnny Burdick officiating.

Interment followed at Pisgah Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery with Danny Lambert, Dennis Lambert, Wendell Lambert, John S. Tillis, Chad Haywood and Harold Sellars serving as active pallbearers.

Born Oct. 29, 1934, in Climax, Ga., Mr. Tillis died on Saturday, March 6, 2010, at Memorial Hospital in Bainbridge,

Mr. Tillis was a graduate of Climax High School, Class of 1951. He retired with more than 20 years of service from the U.S. Air Force and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He worked for almost 20 years in the catalyst department of Engelhard Corp. He was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include his wife, Peggy Tillis of Climax; his son, David L. Tillis of Houston, Texas; his daughter, Susan Tillis Hardy of Tallahassee, Fla.; his sisters, Annie Lee Tillis Johnson of Elberton, Ga., and Bonnie Tillis Toole of Tallahassee; three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Ivey Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
