Coach Rickey McCullough’s Bainbridge High School Bearcats basketball team will open state Class AAAA Final 4 play Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. when they play the Mays High School Raiders of Atlanta at the Gwinnett Center Arena.

Wednesday’s other Final 4 state Class AAAA semifinal round game will feature Miller Grove High School of Lithonia against Richmond Academy of Augusta at 8:30 p.m. The winners of the two semifinal round games will meet Friday at 4:45 p.m. for the state Class AAAA championship.

The Bearcats earned their berth in the Final 4 with a 56-53 victory over the Glenn Hills High School Spartans of Augusta last Friday night at Fort Valley State University. It was their 20th win in a row, and they are 29-4 overall.

The Raiders, who are 21-4, earned their Final 4 berth with a 47-46 semifinal round win over Hillgrove High School of Powder Springs.

McCullough thought a 13-2 scoring run at the beginning of the fourth quarter was key to the victory.

“Glenn Hills was ahead most of the game, but that third-quarter scoring run got us the lead and enabled us to go on and get the win,” the Bearcats head coach said.

“This year’s team has gotten more out of their potential than any other team I have ever coached,” McCullough continued. “We seem to always be around at the end with a chance to win.”

Justin Harris and Devon Baulkman combined for 31 points to lead the Bearcats over Glenn Hills. Harris led the way with 16 and Baulkman put in 15. Rodney Glenn was also in double figures for the Bearcats with 10.

Terrell Fitts of Glenn Hills took game-scoring honors with 22.

Mays will be led Wednesday by 6-foot-6 junior center Colin Cook, 6-foot-5 power forward Yaw Boateng and 5-foot-11 point guard Arya Strong.
