Baulkman, Harris, Thomas lead Bearcats

Devon Baulkman, Justin Harris and Davario Thomas combined for 45 points Tuesday night in Leesburg, pacing coach Rickey McCullough’s Bainbridge High School Bearcats to a 69-62 victory over the Lee County Trojans and concluding a very successful regular season.

Baulkman led the way with 20, Harris put in 15 and Thomas scored 10.

The Region 1AAAA win improved the Bearcats final overall regular season record to 22-4 and their Region 1AAAA South Sub-Region mark to 6-0.

The game was close throughout.

The Trojans’ Sanford Seay tied the it up 52-52 when he hit a jumper with four minutes left in the game. Baulkman converted a slam dunk with just 2:20 remaining to put the Bearcats on top 59-54.

The Bearcats will begin Region 1AAAA Tournament play Wednesday at 5 p.m. when they take on the Harris County Tigers from the Region 1AAAA North Sub-Region at Westside Macon High School.

A victory over Harris County would send the Bearcats to the tournament’s semifinal round against the winner of the Americus-Sumter County, Upson-Lee game Friday at 5:30 p.m. The boys championship game will be Saturday at 8 p.m.

Behind Baulkman, Harris and Thomas in the Bearcats’ scoring chart Tuesday night against Lee County were Rodney Glenn with 7 points, James Hudson with 6, Shawn Samuels with 4, Jeremy Harper with 3, and D.J. Stubbs and Lee Glaze with 1 apiece,

The Trojans featured a balanced scoring attack Tuesday night.

Donte Smith and Jacoby Mallory led the way with 16 points apiece, Chris Tuck scored 10.

The Bearcats trailed 15-11 at the end of the first quarter. The Trojans outscored them 16-15 in the second quarter to led by five, 31-26, at halftime.

The big-scoring quarter for the Bearcats was the third when they scored 21 and held the Trojans to just four to take a 47-35 lead into the fourth quarter.
