Unemployment dips slightly

Decatur County’s unemployment dipped to 11.9 percent in November, marking a year in which the county’s unemployment rate has stayed in double-digits.

October’s unemployment was 12.4 percent, which was slightly less than September’s 12.7 percent.

In June, the unemployment rate hit 13.1 percent, the highest of 2009. The unemployment rate for December 2008 in Decatur County was 10.1 percent.

The unemployment rate in November 2008 was 8.7.

Decatur County’s unemployment rate is also the highest in Southwest Georgia.

On Wednesday, Jan. 20, from 8 to 9 a.m. in the conference room of the Bainbridge\ Decatur County office of the Department of Family and Children Service located at 505 S. Wheat Ave. The seminar will be on unemployment insurance for employers in the area.
