Funeral services William Cecil Thornton, 61, of the Delwood community in Mitchell County, were held Friday, Nov. 27, at Delwood Baptist Church.

Interment followed in the church’s cemetery with Steve Brock, Sammy Smith, Darin Singleton, Chris Caraway, Will Caraway, Joey Griffin, Lanair Worsham Jr., and Harry Sullivan serving as active pallbearers.

Born Nov. 14, 1948, in Decatur County, Mr. Thornton died Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2009, at his residence.

Mr. Thornton was a farmer and a lifetime member of Delwood Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his father, William C. Thornton; and a brother, Mark Thornton.

Survivors include his mother, Irene P. Thornton Lewis of Delwood; his wife, Glenna G. Thornton of Delwood; three daughters, Cile Thornton of Bainbridge, Cindy Thornton of Whigham, Ga., and Charla West of Meigs, Ga.; two sisters, Dianne Singleton of Delwood and Joy Caraway of Camilla; three grandchildren, two nieces and three nephews.

Parker-Bramlett Funeral Home in Camilla, Ga., was in charge of arrangements.
