The North Clayton High School Eagles, the Bainbridge High School Bearcats first round State Class AAAA football playoff opponent Friday night in College Park near Atlanta, runs from the Wing-T formation.

Kickoff will be at 7:30 p.m.

The Eagles are led by senior running back and outside linebacker Clarence Jackson, who has committed to sign with the University of Mississippi Rebels. He rushed for 1,800 yards and 32 touchdowns as a junior and he has rushed for well over 1,000 yards this season.

The Eagles, who are 8-2 overall and 6-2 in Region 2AAAA play, are led by sophomore quarterback Dennis Johnson. Their offensive line is anchored by senior center Torian Box, who has committed to sign with the North Carolina State University Wolfpack. They also have a speedy wide receiver in Kyle Taylor.

Key players on defense in addition to outside linebacker Jackson are tackles Charles Patrick and Davin Redmond.

Bearcats head coach Ed Pilcher says, while North Clayton runs more than they throw, when they do throw they are usually successful.

“North Clayton is kind of like us” Pilcher said. “They don’t throw very much.”

Defensively, they operate out of a 3-3 set.

The Eagles’ 3-3 stack defense is led by strong side linebacker Amarlo Herrera, nose guard Matthew Smith and cornerback Taylor.

“They did a really good job against a strong Region 2AAAA champion Griffin, losing just 26-14,” the Bearcats head coach said. “While they base out of the Wing T, they also use some multiple sets.”

The Eagles only other loss was a 15-14 Friday night loss to Dutchtown. They were led by Jackson, who ran a yard for a touchdown after running 45 yards to set it up, then ran 54 yards for another touchdown.
