Bainbridge College announces furlough plan

Bainbridge College furlough days for faculty and staff have been established for the 2009-10 academic year.

Some are full days, others half days for which the college will close at noon. The schedule was established so that it does not interrupt classes.

Sept. 7 will be a furlough day, adding the usual Labor Day Holiday to the December break so that the college will close Dec. 23 instead of Dec. 24. Half days will be Oct. 9 and Oct. 23. Nov. 25 will be a full day.

Feb. 5 will be a half day, March 4 a full day before the March 5 spring break; April 9 a half day and May 12 a full day, which is the day after graduation.

The furlough policy of the University System of Georgia’s Board of Regents specifies salary reductions accompanying these furloughs will be in the month the furloughs occur. Individuals exempt because of salary considerations will be notified by the BC Human Resources Office. The college will maintain 24/7 security at both locations, President Tom Wilkerson said in his announcement to the faculty and staff.

“Thank you for your patience and understanding in these extraordinarily difficult times. I am convinced that better days are ahead. We must remain confident and dedicated to our ongoing mission of providing excellent educational experiences for the citizens of southwest Georgia,” he said.
