Bainbridge Public Safety Officer Beau Harrell was hailed as a hero Tuesday night by his colleagues and city officials during the Bainbridge City Council meeting.

Harrell was presented a resolution by the Mayor Mark Harrell that cited Harrell’s “quick response and actions in saving the life of Ms. Sandra Gordon.”

According to a letter written by Fire Chief Dennis Mock, Harrell arrived at Ms. Gordon’s resident at 814 Oak Circle Drive 24 minutes after midnight on July 24, and the house was full of smoke. Harrell ran to the front door to see if anyone as in the house and noticed an elderly lady trying to climb through a front window to escape from the smoke and flames.

“Officer Harrell got the window open and put Ms. Gordon over his shoulder and carried her to safety,” Mock wrote in a letter recommending that Harrell be honored. “Officer Harrell continued to battle the smoke and flames along with several other officers to extinguish the fire completely.”

In the resolution, which was read by City Manager Chris Hobby, “Harrell’s actions demonstrated the highest level of public service and was in the best tradition of the Bainbridge Public Safety Department.”

The resolution continued, “This community and this city council are grateful for PSO Harrell’s actions in the service of this community.”

Harrell was accompanied by his parents, Homer and Pat Harrell, their granddaughter, Conner Harrison, and some members of the city’s fire department.
