Grace Christian Academy Lady Cougars soccer players got a chance to learn the finer points of the game from a couple of top college coaches this summer.

The camp instructors were coaches Kelly Files and Nicki Green of the University of Oklahoma Sooners.

On the opening day of camp, the varsity Lady Cougars concentrated on passing, serving and improving their mobility. The second day they worked on serve receive and implementing a new offense. The final day was dedicated to defense. The middle school campers focused on fundamentals.

Files is entering her sixth season on the Oklahoma staff. She had an outstanding playing career at the University of Southern Mississippi where she finished among the top 10 in several statistical categories. A four-year starter and letter winner, she led the team in kills, service aces and blocks her final two seasons. She was named to several All-Tournament teams.

Green joined the Oklahoma volleyball program in 2006 after serving as an assistant coach at the University of North Carolina Charlotte. She also played at the University of Southern Mississippi, where she made the All-30 Volleyball Team and led the Golden Eagles to the most wins in school history in 2003 when they went 26-7. She led the team in kills and ranked third in aces in 2003.

The varsity Lady Cougars, coached by Erwin Harrell and Betsy Flowers, open their season Aug. 22 and 23 at the Patriot Invitational at Maranatha Christian School in Tallahassee, Fla.
