Funeral services for Oliver Wendell Shiver, 76, of Chattahoochee, Fla., will be held Saturday. Aug. 8, at 12 p.m. EDT at Peavy Funeral Home Chapel in Blountstown, Fla., with the Revs. Wyatt Shiver and Andy Gloover officiating.
Interment will follow in the Victory Hill Cemetery near Altha, Fla.
Mr. Shiver’s family and friends will serve as his active pallbearers.
Born in Altha, Fla., on Dec. 12, 1932, Mr. Shiver died on July 31, 2009, at his home in Chattahoochee after a long battle with cancer.
Mr. Oliver was a faithful member of the Chattahoochee Assembly of God Church and sang in its choir. He served in the Air Force in the Korean War before marrying and moving to Tampa. He retired from Continental Can Company in 1987 and relocated back to the tri-county area to be near family in 1995. He raised cows on his farm in Georgia, cut his own hay, gardened and fished.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Jay and Julian Shiver; and three sisters, Vera Wynn, Maude Owens and lnez Davis.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Helen Eloise Shiver; his only daughter, Melinda Wendy Shiver; his sister, Jessie Mae Doyal; a brother, Theron Shiver; a dear brother-in-law, Larry Owens; a grandson, four nephews, and many other extended family members.
Peavy Funeral Home in Blountstown, Fla., is in charge of funeral arrangements.
