Final tribute to Baby

For the readers that remember my articles on Baby, I’m going to share a last one.
I had no idea how long that she would live, when I found her more than two years ago. Worn and tattered, skin and bones, as well as dying from heartworms. All I knew was that I wanted to make her life as good as possible for the little time she had left.
I didn’t know how attached that she would become to anyone that was around her. She was a sight only a person that loved dogs could see. She never grew all of her hair back, but she had a thick coat of some kind of matted up, what used to be hair.
My friend, Dwayne, nicknamed her “Cheese Puff,” because that’s about what she looked like except that she had four kinds of hair color, not orange.
To others, she may have looked like a tumbleweed. Heartworms are terrible and at the end, they are the worst. She had a lot of bad days, but I would like to think, many good days.
Prevention is the best, but if it happens it can be treated, if caught in time. Circumstances play a key role. My tears fall as I sit here and look at where she ate, slept and sometimes had an uncontrollable “oops” accident.
She was part of my family, but I know that she is in heaven now and better off. Enough of that stuff; lets talk about some of her good times.
I used to sing this song to her, she loved it, her tail would start wagging and then she would start prancing around. She could dance too!
These words will forever stay in my mind.
“Baby face, you’ve got the cutest little baby face. No one could ever take your place! You’re momma’s little baby face.”
As for myself, my family and anyone who knew and loved Baby, she will always have a special place in our hearts. At 6:30 p.m. on May 20, 2009, Baby passed away. She will surely be missed.
