Multiple fire fighting agencies responded to two separate fires that occurred Wednesday afternoon.

Shortly before 1:30 p.m., Decatur County Fire and Rescue along with volunteer firefighters from Brinson, Kendrick and Blackjack stations responded to a fully involved fire at a mobile home located at 114 Asphalt Plant Road, off U.S. 84 West.

Firefighters battled flames that shot out of numerous windows at the home.

The residents of the home were not there when the fire occurred.

Decatur County Fire and Rescue Chief Charlie McCann said he suspected the fire may have been caused by an electrical short.

The fire was contained in approximately two hours, according to McCann.

Later that same day at around 5:30 p.m., the same group of firefighters responded to another blaze that caused extreme damage to a barn located at 140 Steadham Road, off Georgia 253 North.

McCann said it was undetermined what may have caused the fire since there was no electricity run to the building. He said the barn was filled with miscellaneous items like lumber and old equipment, which burned in the fire.

Firefighter again spent nearly two hours battling the blaze.
