Welcome to the future

The future for Bainbridge and Decatur County just got a little brighter this week with the prospect of having Meredian Inc. lease the old American Fibers and Yarns building at the county’s industrial park.

Meredian Inc. and its sister company, DaniMer Scientific LLC, are investing more than $36 million in infrastructure and equipment in Decatur County. It’s a bet for the future.

The products and prospects of these two companies are exciting: They are new, “green” companies that can change the way our disposable society thinks—petroleum-free, biodegradable raw materials that could be used and manufactured into countless products that would used by the world—produced right here in Bainbridge, Ga.

Congratulations—and thanks—to Meredian, DaniMer Scientific, the Development Authority and the county for seeing that bright future being right here in Decatur County.

Some gave all

Once again, some members of the Climax community are taking an extra step and doing something good for the whole county.

This time it’s the Decatur County Veterans Memorial located in Parker Park in Climax.

This Saturday at 10 a.m., the Veterans Memorial will be dedicated.

The memorial is to honor all veterans who have served in the military in all branches of the service, including those missing in action, killed in action or prisoners of war, said committee member Bubber Hester.

The insignias of all the branches of service are engraved on the memorial too. Flags of all different branches of the military will also be displayed at the memorial along with the U.S. flag, Climax correspondent Jean Ouzts wrote recently.

This is another vehicle to show our appreciation and recognition to those who served and to those who gave all.
