Thank God for good men

Thank goodness for men like Linny Evans, who, to my knowledge has been taken kids fishen in groups since way before Tom Mann passed.

He goes to the Bassmaster Classic and to the FLW Fishout most of the time.  He and I agree on why have a kids classic fishoff in Pittsburg after Kevin Van Dam won the classic with less than 20 pounds of bass in three days fishen?

Mr. Evans has a new club going called “Golija,” 5026 Hammock Trail, Lake Park, GA 31636.  This was the first trip they made. First place went to Martin Tucker, second place went to Dakota Rowell, third place went to Rhett Ham and Big Fish went to Martin Tucker with a 4.02 pounds. There was eight men taken eight kids fishen.

Mr. Morgan Spruill took the pics and furnished the information on the tournament since Mr. Evans had open heart surgery last week. Like I say, “Thank God for men like him.”

Now for some more good news, Georgia has more world titles in fresh water fishen than any state in the union. So far as I been able to find out, here are five, there is another one, but it is a Darter and only weighed 1.0 ounce. But let’s go this way, white amur carp, Tracy B. Tedric, Flint River, July 3, 2003; largemouth bass, George W. Perry, Montgomery Lake, Ga., June 2, 1932; shoal bass, David A. Hubbard, Flint River, Oct. 23, 1977; albino channel catfish, H. Buddy Durden, Lake, Ga., June 12, 1998; chain pickral, Baxley McQuaig Jr., Feb. 17, 1961.  That my friends is a lot of records for Georgia to hold.

Now, here’s one for you to ponder over, the world’s largest nile perch, 184 pounds, was taken in Lake Nasser, Egypt. He my friends is our talapia. Just think what some fishen lies that could get started here on Seminole with one, one-10th  the size of that one?

Paul Tyre and Nic Jeter won the weekly Thursday Night Jack Wingate Big Fish Tournament with an 8.26-pound bass.  The entry fee is $50 per boat, 5 percent of each entry goes into the pot for the biggest bass of the year at the end of the season.

Now don’t forget the May 25 Memorial Day Tournament to be held out of Wingate’s, safe daylight to 3 p.m.

The Five Flags Club out of Pensacola fished out over the weekend, the results is:  First place, Bill Myrick with 33.5 pounds; second place, Bob Jones with 14.51 pounds, third place, Butch Gunnells with 13.37 pounds and Big Fish was Bill Myrick with 9.49 pounds.
