Fleeing from road safety check

A woman was arrested in possession of marijuana after fleeing from a safety checkpoint Saturday morning.

Shortly after 10 a.m., Bainbridge Public Safety officers were conducting a driver’s license checkpoint at West Street and Edgewood Drive.

According to incident reports, officers witnessed a vehicle approach the checkpoint, stop, back up several feet and perform a U-turn.

Officer Archie Mills and Cpl. Aaron Brown attempted to perform a traffic stop on the vehicle, which refused to stop, turning onto Burgess Street. When the driver, Timayia Lacardre Bellamy, 30, of Lake Park, Fla., stopped at the intersection of Burgess and Banks streets, Brown pulled his police cruiser in front of the vehicle to prevent it from farther fleeing.

Inside the vehicle, officer located a small amount of marijuana on the floor board of the car.

Bellamy was arrested and charged with driving while license suspended or revoked, improper backing, fleeing or attempting to elude, possession of marijuana and impeding traffic flow.

River Town Days concert arrest

A Bainbridge woman was arrested Friday night after she began eating refreshment set aside for the bands performing in the concert, according to incident reports.

Bainbridge Public Safety officers responded to the Performing Arts Building where they were told by a security guard that Sheila West, 39, of 185 Thompson West Road, had entered the back stage area and was eating the bands’ refreshments. He said he asked West to leave and she refused.

In the report, officers noted that West was uncooperative, smelled of alcohol and had a partially empty alcoholic beverage on her person. She was arrested and charged with public drunkenness.

GSP update

State troopers from the Colquitt post of the Georgia State Patrol investigated 11 traffic crashes during the month of April in Decatur County.

Sgt. 1st Class Bryan Strickland said the traffic crashes resulted in nine injuries and zero traffic deaths.

Strickland said troopers from the post also issued 223 traffic citations in that county that included 15 arrests for DUI, 40 citations for speeding, 60 seat belt violations and 29 child restraint violations. Troopers also issued 239 warnings.
