The local Salvation Army teamed up with Food Bank of Southwest Georgia in conjunction with First Baptist Church to provide approximately 450 boxes of food to needy persons in the area. On April 14, those needing a little help lined up at the First Baptist Church parking lot to receive food donations from the organizations. “We are very happy to be able to do this,” said Dewey Robinson, chairman of the local Salvation Army. It was the first time donations have been delivered this way, according to Robinson. The Salvation Army provides food donations year round to those who qualify for the aid, but for the event the guidelines were relaxed with recipients only having to provide identification and a verbal reason for need. “The need is so great with the economy and the recent flooding, we relaxed the guidelines to help,” said Robinson. Donations included chicken, sausage patties, grits, rice, beans, tuna and vegetables.
