In less than 10 minutes, approximately 2,500 plastic Easter eggs stuffed with candy or a piece of paper that denoted a bigger prize were found Saturday.

With children divided into three age groups, hundreds of youngsters accompanied by parents or grandparents scurried across the manicured grass to find eggs out in the openness of the outfields. Eggs for the older children were also hidden in cups turned over by the fence line or hidden in less obvious locations.

City of Bainbridge employees and volunteers placed eggs among three ball fields at the Bill Reynolds No. 2 Sports Complex on Cox Avenue. It was relocated there from the Earle May Boat Basin because the basin was flooded with muddy Flint River waters.

But as far as Leisure Services Program Director Diane Atkinson said, the temporary location worked out better because it was more compact and convenient.

She said she didn’t know how many actually showed up, “But I am please with who came.”

Libby Willis of the city’s Leisure Services Department said pre-registration was more than 100 persons, which normally is only 60.

Prize winners

Destiny Minchew, 10, of Bainbridge won the big Easter basket full of goodies donated by the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and its auxiliary.

The big rabbit given by the City of Bainbridge was won by Alexis Caldwell, 2, of Bainbridge.

The following are the winners of the baskets after finding the prize eggs:

Ages 0-3: First, Abigail Trammell; second, Alijah Madge, and third, Ty Brown.

Ages 4-6: First, Kayla Braswell; second, Elaina Wynn, and third, Jordan McDonald.

Ages 7-10: Alexis Wimberly; second, Allee Ashton, and third, Lyndsay Presnal.
