Thursday, April 2, at 5:30 p.m. is set as the time for Bainbridge and Decatur County folks to meet artists Kathy Ketterer and Barry Knapp.

Ketterer, a resident of Bainbridge and an instructor in business at Bainbridge College, will be displaying her digitally enhanced photography.

Knapp, a resident of St. Simons Island and an instructor at the Brunswick Job Corps, will show exquisite pottery and glass pieces.

The Firehouse Center and Gallery, under the red dome at the corner of Water and Crawford streets, will be the location for this entertaining event.

As has become the custom, the 5:30 reception will provide delicious refreshments compliments of the Bainbridge-Decatur County Council for the Arts. There is no admission charge.

Ketterer gives a lot of credit to her grandmother and her mother for her attraction to art. Her attraction extends to the fact that she is married to an artist.

Ketterer completed her art major degree at Monmouth College in New Jersey. Her interest in photography began when she was coaching springboard diving. Capturing images became a focus for her and has continued as “an amazing adventure.” She enjoys sharing images “that excite, inspire and create emotion”.

One observer of Ketterer’s work noted that “the lady pushes the envelope. She’s not afraid to toy with the edges.”

Knapp graduated from Purdue University with a degree in art education. He has taught in many places including Iceland and Cuba.

From his Whole Gamut Studio on St. Simons Island, Knapp will be bringing quite an array of art forms. He will show ceramic bowls with designs of sea turtles, crabs, dolphins and manatees. Also on display will be sculptural pieces featuring bright colors and hand crafted glass accents. In addition, there will be wheel thrown pottery and blown glass bubbles/ornaments containing sand and shells. Certain eye-catchers will be Knapp’s large ceramic wall hangings of suns and moons.

This exhibit will be open to the public free of charge for two weekends—April 3, 4 and 5; also, April 10,11 and 12.

Gallery hours on Fridays and Sundays are 1 to 4 p.m. On Saturdays, the exhibit will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
