FFA Week kicked off with a bang at Hutto Middle School.

The members and student body of Hutto celebrated National FFA Week during the week of Feb. 21-28 with this year’s theme “Step Up, Stand Out.”

FFA week included activities that not only would involve FFA members, but also would include the entire student body and faculty of our school, which illustrates how FFA is a student organization that promotes personal growth, premier leadership and career success.

Our FFA Spirit Dress up Week was a big hit. Each day of the week was themed for students to dress up and help celebrate FFA Week.

Monday was Team Day, Tuesday was Decades Day, Wednesday was Tacky Day, Thursday was Blue and Gold Day, and Friday was Rock Star Day.

On Feb. 26, the chapter hosted a faculty breakfast, when officers served the faculty and thanked them for their support throughout the year.

On Thursday afternoon, there was a FFA leadership field day meeting that provided a fun leadership opportunity and team building skills to members.

The members were asked to sign up ahead of time and then were divided into teams of eight. The teams competed by participating in the leadership obstacle course, extreme tug of war contest and the egg toss.

To complete the obstacle course, teams had to master the teamwork skis and work together to unlock a chain placed around a tire. Once the lock had been opened, one member had to climb inside a tire and be wheeled down quickly to the finish line by the team.

Once the obstacle course was completed, all teams competed in extreme tug of war and the egg toss. The winning teams received items from FFA Unlimited.

For our FFA Week Community Service Project, we hosted a school-wide FFA Hat Day, which was held in conjunction with Blue and Gold Day on Feb. 26.

Students could participate by paying $1 to wear their favorite hat to school. Teachers also helped the cause by paying $5 to wear blue jeans. All the proceeds from the FFA Hat Day went to the Bainbridge-Decatur County Humane Society. Our chapter raised $400 to be donated to the shelter.

To promote the FFA Organization and FFA Week, our chapter, along with West Bainbridge Middle School and Bainbridge High School FFA officers, were guests on the program “Weekdays with Wilda.”

The officers and chapter advisers provided the public with information about the FFA organization and what our schools were doing to celebrate FFA Week.

The FFA organization develops personal growth, leadership and career success through agricultural education classes and FFA activities.

The FFA Week observance got members, students and faculty involved in celebrating National FFA Week.

Our chapter is proud that we could involve so many diverse groups of students in National FFA Week. We were able to do many great things through our activities.
