Cat coaches, players lead All-Stars

Bainbridge High School All-Star players and coaches had major roles in Saturday night’s second annual Deep South All-Star Classic basketball games at Darton College’s Cavalier Arena in Albany.

The West All-Stars girls team was coached by Dougherty High School Lady Trojans head coach Charlene Jackson and Latreisha Moon, who led the Bainbridge High School Lady Cats to the Region 1AAAA championship and a berth in the State Class AAAA Final 4.

The West All-Star girls edged the East All-Stars 56-54 behind a 21-point most valuable player performance by Nicolle Thomas of the Colquitt County High School Lady Packers.

Lady Bearcat Zaikia Dawson was in double figures with 14. Lady Bearcat Megan Bell scored 5 and Lady Bearcat LaShawnda Middleton had 6 assists.

The West All-Stars boys team was coached by Bainbridge High School Bearcats head coach Rickey McCullough, who like Moon, led his team to the Region 1AAAA championship and a berth in the state Class AAAA Final 4. The West All-Star boys dropped a 74-66 decision to the East All-Stars.

The West All-Stars were led by Antroine Williford of the Bearcats with 15 points. Robert Ellis of the Terrell County High School Green Wave had 14 points and 19 rebounds. The Bearcats’ Marquis Williams and Melzie Johnson scored 10 apiece and Bearcat James Lodman scored 4.
