17-year-old found with gun and drugs

On March 13, Bainbridge Public Safety Officers arrested a 17-year-old Bainbridge teen after responding to a report of shots fired in the area of Washington and Green streets in Bainbridge.

When BPS Cpl. Aaron Brown arrived in the area he located Calvin E. Register, 17, of 303 W. Green St. in Bainbridge, recalling that he was wanted by the Decatur County Sheriff’s Office, according to incident reports.

Cpl. Brown called for backup and once Officer Greg Brown arrived, the two informed Register that he was under arrest for a probation warrant.

When they searched the young man’s pockets they found a bag containing suspected marijuana, a .45 Cal handgun in his waist band and a clip for the gun in another pocket.

Register was charged with probation violation—original charge theft by taking, possession of marijuana (less than an ounce), possession of a firearm under 18 years of age and carrying a concealed weapon.

In November 2008, Register was arrested by Bainbridge Public Safety officers and charged with theft by taking.

Shoplifter apprehended

On March 14, Bainbridge Public Safety officers responded to a shoplifting that occurred at Maxway, a clothing store in the Bainbridge Mall.

Officer were told by store employees that a man was seen tucking a white T-shirt from the store under his shirt. When confronted by an employee, the suspect ran out of the store, dropping the shirt as he told the employee, “I enjoy stealing, it’s fun,” according to incident reports.

The suspect, Timothy Clarence Miller, 19, of Jacksonville, Fla., was located and brought back to the store to be identified by employees by a Decatur County Sheriff’s deputy.

Miller was arrested and charged with shoplifting. It was noted in the report that Miller had $5 on his person and claimed he was there to purchase the shirt.
