Names on the wall

We are concerned about cancer and most of our lives have been touched by someone we love that has had cancer.

Some have survived and some like my mother, fought a good fight but did not make it.

The names on the wall of our courthouse are a tribute to those who fought and lost. These are the names of just a few of the citizens of our county who lost that battle.

I look at them each morning as I unlock the doors to our courthouse and I stop every morning to say good morning to my mother, Edna Waller Sellers. It is a privilege to me, to be able to open the doors for all of you and if you visit the courthouse, take a few minutes to stop and read the names on the wall.

There are names of brave people who had cancer but lost. Each one is special.

My mother’s name is there. Also, to name a few who touched my life are Dr. Griffin, who delivered my first child, who is now Dr. Stephanie B. Landeen. Also, Judge Galpin, who went out of his way to help me keep her when she was a baby and I had no money for legal advice in a custody battle with her father’s family.

My mother helped me care for her so that I could work to support her, with no help from the family who tried to take her from me.

There are two spaces unfilled on these boards and I would like to see more put on the wall, so that we can honor them. I know that I work for you and every morning I promise her to do my best for you, as I do my job.

Thank you for letting me serve you.

Sincerely,Olivia Sellers McCall
