The assistant principal who paddled a Decatur County elementary school student multiple times in one day has been suspended without pay for ten days, the county’s Board of Education decided Thursday night.

Jeanette Grimsley, the assistant principal at Potter Street Elementary School, used “poor judgment in the number of times corporal punishment” she administered to a student on February 6, according to a news release Board of Education Chairman Sydney Cochran released at the end of Thursday night’s meeting.

Wednesday, Feb. 18 update:

Potter Street Elementary School Assistant Principal Jeanette Grimsley has been placed on administrative leave with pay from the school, Decatur County School Superintendent Ralph Jones confirmed Wednesday. Grimsley was placed on leave last Friday, Feb. 13, until the investigation into an excessive paddling incident is complete. Additionally, Jones confirmed that corporal punishment throughout the county system has been suspended until the Board of Education can discuss the current policy and make changes where needed. The next scheduled meeting of the Decatur County School Board is Thursday night at 7 p.m.
