Funeral services for Mrs. Juanita McKelvey “Nita” Young, 62, of Attapulgus, were held Saturday, Jan. 31, at St. Paul Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Jimmy Simmons, Pastor James O. Caldwell and Elder Kenneth D. Evans serving as officiating ministers.

Interment followed at the church’s cemetery with Wendell Gamble, Andre Carter, Eric Harvey, Anthony Strong, Terry Bulger and Terry Green serving as active pallbearers.

Born Dec. 10, 1946, in Decatur County, Ga., Mrs. Young died on Jan. 22, 2009, at Memorial Hospital in Bainbridge.

Mrs. Young attended Decatur County Schools and worked at Elberta Crate and Box factory before becoming disabled later in life. She was a member of St. Paul Primitive Baptist Church, where she served on multiple committees.

Survivors include her husband, Willie Lee “Bill” Young of Fowlstown; two sons, Eric Harris of Tallahassee, Fla., and Donald O’Keith Goss of Bainbridge; four daughters, Lesley Young and Ashley Harris, both of Fowlstown, and Cheryl Murphy and Yolanda Neal, both of Bainbridge; four sisters, Wynee Shaw, Dorothy Smith and Addie Ruth Rogers, all of Fowlstown, and Faye Simmons of Bainbridge; three brothers, George Carter III and Raymond McKelvey, both of Attapulgus, and Alvin McKelvey of Chattahoochee, Fla.; 18 grandchildren; a niece she raised as her own, Chandra Casteel of Bainbridge; and a host of family and friends.

Bruton Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
