Elvie Samples

Funeral services for Elvie Coleman Samples, 90, of Columbus, Ga., were held Tuesday, Feb. 3, at the Chapel of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary in Columbus with the Rev. Michael Heath officiating.

Interment followed at Spring Creek Cemetery in Donalsonville, Ga.

Born Oct. 19, 1918, in Decatur County, Mrs. Samples died on Saturday, Jan. 31, 2009, at Doctors Hospital in Columbus.

Mrs. Samples was a homemaker and member of South Columbus Senior Center. She was also a member of Eastwood Baptist Church. Mrs. Samples was preceded in death by her husband, Nathan L. Samples; a son, Fred T. Knapp; two brothers, Alva Coleman and Billy Coleman; and a sister, Dora Belle Coleman.

She is survived by one sister, Margaret Askew of Columbus; two grandsons, five nieces, two nephews, several great-nieces and great-nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Striffler-Hamby Mortuary in Columbus, Ga.
