Funeral services for Elmer Lanier Strickland, 74, of Calvary, Ga., will be held on Friday, Jan. 30, at 11 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Chris Hammock officiating.
Interment will follow in the Piedmont Cemetery with Mike Driggers, LeRoy Strickland, Robbie McFadden, Jeremy Cliett, Steven Tillery, Matthew Cliett, Brian Blair and Lex Coleman serving as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at Clark Funeral Home in Cairo, on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m.
Born in Calvary, Ga., on Oct. 31, 1934, Mr. Strickland died in Grady General Hospital in Cairo, Ga., on Monday, Jan. 26, 2009.
Mr. Strickland was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Army, and worked for more than 40 years as an insurance adjuster with Slade and Darnell. He was preceded in death by a sister, Florine Weldon.
Survivors include his wife, Delores; three daughters, Kay Coleman and Lynn Alfes, both of Calvary, and Renee Bryan of Seward, Alaska; a brother, Lamar Strickland of Calvary; two sisters, Jerry Driggers of Orange Park, Fla., and Dale Strickland Herig of Snellville, Ga.; five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and 11 nieces and nephews.
Clark Funeral Home in Cairo is in charge of arrangements.
