It’s a new year, and the cat and dog fanatics in the Bainbridge-Decatur County Humane Society are planning new ways to have fun and help care for pets who need a home.

The Humane Society will hold a bingo and spaghetti night on Friday, Jan. 30, at the Bainbridge First Presbyterian Church located at 200 E. Shotwell St., Bainbridge.

Supper starts at 6 p.m. and bingo will be played between 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Door prizes will also be awarded.

Admission costs $10 for adults and $5 for children and includes dinner and a starter bingo card. Extra cards can be obtained by making small donations at the event.

A book fair to benefit the Humane Society is scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 28, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 516 E. Broughton St. in Bainbridge.

People interested in donating their good-condition books and magazines for the book fair may drop them off at the Animal Shelter on Cox Avenue (near the City of Bainbridge baseball fields) anytime during normal business hours. They can also be dropped off at Bainbridge High School, Tractor Supply or Kimberly’s Pet Salon. All proceeds will benefit the care of animals at the Humane Society’s shelter.

Another way to help the Humane Society, include donating pet food, shampoo, treats, toys and kitty litter. Empty printer/toner cartridges can be recycled for money for the shelter, while old stuffed animals, blankets, towels and socks make great toys for homeless pets.

Hoodies and short- and long-sleeved T-shirts with the Humane Society logo are available at the animal shelter in various sizes and colors. Monetary donations to support operation of the animal shelter may also be made by sending a personal check to Bainbridge Humane Society, P.O. Box 429, Bainbridge, GA 39819.
