The Bainbridge High School wrestling team divided a pair of matches Tuesday in Moultrie to open the post-holiday portion of their schedule.

They defeated the homestanding Colquitt County High School Packers 46-32 but lost to the Lee County High School Trojans.

“We had beaten Lee County twice earlier in the season, but yesterday we had to put some of our junior varsity performers up against them,” Coach David Kirkland said Wednesday morning.

Three wrestlers defeated both their matches with Colquitt and Lee counties by pin: Cole Gilbourn, competing in the 119-pound division; Marc Fleetwood, competing in the 125-pound division, and Brock Merchant, competing in the 160-pound division.

Tyler Pollock, competing in the 130-pound division, won his Colquitt match by pin and lost to Lee match by pin.

Curtis Anderson, competing in the 145-pound division, won his Colquitt match by points and lost his Lee match by points.

Brandon Griffin, competing in the 135-pound division, lost to both his opponents by pin.

Maguel Hermosillo, competing in the 215-pound division, defeated his Colquitt opponent by pin, and Ben Reynolds, competing in the heavyweight division, defeated his Colquitt opponent by pin.

Kirkland explained how wrestling is scored.

“In wrestling scoring, a pin, a forfeit and a major decision are all worth six points. Major decisions are wins by 15 points or more.

“Falls are worth three points, take downs are worth two points, near falls are worth two points, reversals are worth two points, and escapes are worth one point.”
