Tuesday’s vicious dogs attack of a woman simply walking down Johnny Skipper Road is again a road this county has ridden down far too often.

Kudos to Decatur County Commissioners for enacting a county-wide animal ordinance following an earlier dog attack of an 8-year-old girl last July.

Now the test will be if it is strictly enforced and dog owners take heed of the intend of the law, which is that they are responsible for their dogs to be registered, vaccinated and under their owner’s control in a humane manner.

Just like with any enforcement issue, citizens are going to have to step up to the plate to make sure that the ordinance is adhered to, and that vicious dogs won’t be tolerated in the county.

There have been too many scars from innocent residents to not ensure that this ordinance is strictly enforced—by law enforcement and the citizens of Decatur County.
