The presentation of the ninth annual Jamie Denise Day Award to Chelsey Bryant, the best all around football cheerleader award to Peyton Jones and best all around competition cheerleader awards to Ivy Heard and Sydney Smith highlighted Tuesday night’s Bainbridge High School varsity cheerleader awards banquet at The Charter House Inn.

The Day Award, named in honor and memory of a former BHS cheerleader, who passed away December 26, 2000 of cancer, is the most prestigious honor a BHS cheerleader can receive.

It is given by the late cheerleader’s parents Sharon and Dennis Day to the cheerleader who demonstrates the same outstanding dedication, spirit and courage demonstrated by their daughter.

Miss Bryant, who also received the dance execution award, will have her name placed on a plaque which contains the names of the other eight Day Award winners and hangs permanently in the Decatur County Memorial Coliseum.

In addition to her shared best all around competition cheerleader award, Miss Heard received the academic award for having the highest grade point average on the squad and the 110 percent award for always giving her best and going beyond the call of duty.

Michael Jones received the Bearcat Pride Award for her dedication and hard work. The cheer execution award went to Kanesha Register, the gymnast award went to Allison Kelley and the jumps award went to Emily Newsome.

The most dependable cheerleader award was won by Amber Searcy and the most improved cheerleader award was won by Tara Smith.

Charlton Reynolds won the trooper award for always coming back and working hard regardless of the circumstances.

“She’s kind of like that old watch commercial,” cheerleader sponsor Sheri Dunn-Ulm said describing Miss Reynolds. “She takes a licking but keeps on ticking.”

Ms. Dunn-Ulm and sponsor Lauren Turner gave special recognition to captains and seniors Sydney Smith and Peyton Jones, co-captains Ivy Heard and senior Amber Searcy, senior Alex Adams, managers Macey Phillips and Bailey Manley and Bearcat mascots Parks Kirbo and Zach McLendon.
