Tuesday evening Bainbridge Public Safety officers arrested a 15-year-old juvenile for prowling and possessing a stolen firearm.

At around 10:30 p.m., police responded to an apartment on North Crawford Street where a man reported two prowlers. He told officers he had been in his home when he saw two males riding on a bicycle outside his home, according to police reports. The man said he went to the door and saw the two males run behind his home. The resident followed and chased the two until he lost sight of them near Flowers By Cooper. When he returned to his home he found a .38-caliber pistol where he found the boys behind his home.

BPS officers patrolling the area located the two young men in the area of the Calhoun Street bridge, at which time they took off running toward Dothan Road.

After a short foot chase, BPS officer Gary Hines caught one of the suspects. The juvenile was placed under arrest and charged with theft by receiving stolen property, loitering and prowling and resisting.

The firearm was stolen from a vehicle in May 2007 and was positively identified and picked up by the owner. The bicycle was also confiscated.

Fire at Delta Tire

Multiple fire departments responded to a truck fire that occurred Thursday night at Delta Tire Company on Dothan Road.

At around 9 p.m. a fire alarm was set off in a warehouse used to store tires and equipment used for the business. A service truck was ablaze inside the building.

Bainbridge Public Safety and Decatur County Fire and Rescue, which was in the area at the time, responded to the fire. In addition, Black Jack, Climax and Brinson volunteer fire departments were called in to help.

BPS Fire Chief Dennis Mock said the addition departments were requested in case the fire spread to the tires, which produce thick black smoke and produce large amounts of heat.

Firefighters had the fire contained within 15 to 20 minutes.

“They did a good job working together and getting the job done,” Mock said.

GSP update

State Troopers from the Post 14 in Colquitt, Ga., investigated 18 traffic crashes during November in Decatur County.

Sgt. 1st Class Eddie Edwards said the traffic crashes resulted in 14 injuries and one death. Troopers issued 192 traffic citations including nine arrests for DUI, 67 citations for speeding, 29 seat belt violations and 11 child restraint violations. They also issued 202 warnings.
