Lady Cats lose 62-57

The Mitchell County High School Lady Eagles outscored the Bainbridge High School Lady Cats 7-4 in overtime Friday in Camilla to pull out a 62-57 victory.

The score was tied 53-53 at the end of regulation. It was close throughout.

The Lady Cats took their first lead at 7-6 when April Thomas completed a three-point play with 4:08 remaining in the first quarter. The score was tied 13-13 at the end of the first quarter.

The Lady Cats outscored the Lady Eagles 9-3 in the final 5:26 of the second quarter to take a 24-21 halftime lead.

They trailed 17-15 when Briana Wade hit a three-pointer from the right side at the 5:26 mark to put them up 18-17.

Alexis Burke, who poured in a team-high 18 points, followed with a driving layup off the right glass to put the Lady Cats up by three, 20-17. The Lady Eagles countered with a jumper in the lane at the 3:45 mark to cut it to 20-19.

Demika Quisinberry put the Lady Eagles out front briefly 21-20 when she hit a layup off the left glass with 3:02 remaining. A short jumper in the lane by Zaikia Dawson with 2:23 left put the Lady Cats back on top 22-21.

A rebound and put-back by Burke with just one minute remaining closed out the first half scoring with just one second remaining.

Behind Burke in the Lady Cats scoring column were Thomas with nine, Bria Harris with seven, Dawson with six, Bria Wade with five, Lashawnda Middleton with four, Megan Bell with three and T’Keyhah Thomas with two.

The Lady Eagles’ Kededia Cooper took game-high scoring honors with 25. Kapris Ganan was also in double figures with 12.

The Lady Cats, who were 2-2 following Friday’s loss, return to action today at 6 p.m. when they host East Gadsden High School from Quincy, Fla., at the Decatur County Memorial Coliseum.

They will host the Colquitt County High School Lady Packers Friday at 6 p.m. at the Coliseum.
