Local coach a Swine Time 5K winner

Caleb Alte, a senior cross country runner at Winter Park High School in Winter Park, Fla., and Bainbridge High School Cross Country Coach Mandi O’Mara captured the championships at Saturday’s annual 5,000-meter, 3.1-mile Swine Time Festival Run in Climax.

Alte was the overall winner in the 72-runner field, with a time of 17 minutes, 27 seconds, while O’Mara was the top female finisher and 10th overall finisher, with a time of 22:46.

Alte said he thought the course, which was uphill coming back, was challenging.

“We don’t have many hills around Orlando,” he said. “I am used to running on flat surfaces.”

Zachary Barnett was first in the male 13 and under division with a time of 51:20, and Rachel Maloy was first in the female 13 and under division with a time of 35:29.

Josh Valls was second behind Alte in the 14 to 19 male division and was also second overall with a time of 18:40.

Finishing first in the 14 to 19 female division was Kara Chatham with a time of 47:46. Winning the 20 to 29 male division was Norm St. John, who was third overall with a time of 20:19.

Taking second behind O’Mara in the 20 to 29 female division was Annie Beauchamp in a time of 28:22.

The 30 to 39 male and female division winners were Randy Breedlove and Kellie Davis, with times of 22:25 and 30:05.

Scott Gzyzer was first in the 40 to 49 male division in a time of 26:10, and Carol Harrison was first in the 40 to 49 female division in a time of 30:36.

Capturing the 50 to 59 male and female division titles were Jay Herring and Linda A. Wann with times of 21:23 and 26:51.

Winners in the 60 to 69 male and female division were Tom Crine and Linda Lee, with times of 32:04 and 55:43.

Top finishers in the 50 to 59 male and female division were Bill deGrummond and Barbara Pendley, with times of 49:15 and 45:19.
