Early Thursday morning, a man armed with a knife robbed a clerk at the Mr. Pip’s convenience store on U.S. 27 North.

Shortly before 2 a.m. a white male came into the store wielding a kitchen knife approximately eight inches long and told the clerk to give him the money. The clerk pulled out the cash register drawer and placed it on the counter. The man grabbed an undetermined amount of money before fleeing the store on foot.

Decatur County Sheriff’s Office Chief Investigator Wendell Cofer said a witness saw a white, mid-sized vehicle in the area, but they are not sure if it has a connection to the robbery.

The robber was described as a white male, approximately 6 feet tall, in his mid-20s with a slender build.

Fleeing from wreck

The driver of a maroon Saturn fled from the scene of a rollover accident Friday.

Around 12:30 p.m. the vehicle overturned on U.S. 97 South near Murray Road. Witnesses told police a Hispanic male driver exited the vehicle, removed the car’s license plate and radio, got into a gray-colored vehicle and fled the scene.

Decatur County Sheriff’s Deputy Vincent Edmonds said the vehicle was not reported stolen and they are searching for the driver.

Kmart climbers

Three men were arrested Wednesday night after they were found on top of the Kmart building in Bainbridge.

Store employees called police after hearing footsteps on the roof.

Bainbridge Public Safety officers arrived and found Jeffery Daniel Taylor, 22, of Donalsonville, Ga.; Jonathan Edwards Gipson, 23, of Donalsonville, Ga.; and Jerry Hooker, 18, of Thomasville, Ga., on the roof, apparently attempting to burglarize the store.

Gipson was charged with criminal attempt to commit burglary. Both Taylor and Hooker were arrested and charged with criminal attempt to commit burglary and possession of tools for the commission of a crime.

Home burglaries reported

Three home burglaries were reported in the Bainbridge area over the past week.

On Nov. 21 a resident of Calhoun Street reported she found the back door of her home open when she got home from work. The house had been ransacked with furniture moved and clothing and other items strewn about the house.

In the incident report, the officer noted the back door appeared to have been jimmied open with a sharp tool.

The woman reported $20 and a cell phone were missing.

The next day, Nov. 22, the burglary of a home on Martin Street was reported. A woman told police she had been watching the home for the owners, who were out of town. When checking on the home she found one of the rear windows broken and the latch on a shed broken from the door being pried open.

She later reported two firearms were missing from the home.

On Nov. 24, police responded to a break-in at a home on Monroe Street. The resident said he returned home from work to find his front door had been forced open and his house had been ransacked.

According to incident reports, the house was left in disarray with couch cushions on the floor and books pulled down from book shelves. The ladder to the attic was also pulled down.

The man said he did not notice anything missing from the home.
