Auburn University Tigers All-American golfer and former Bainbridge High School Bearcats low medalist Jay Moseley has won the prestigious Cliff Haire Award, which goes annually to an Auburn University male athlete who excels athletically and academically.

Moseley, son of Susan and Brown Moseley of Bainbridge, finished his outstanding Auburn golf career in 2007, leading the team in scoring average, sub-par rounds in the 60s and top-10 finishes.

Moseley described the Cliff Hare Award as the most humbling honor he had ever received.

“I know how many great athletes have been at Auburn and how many great athletes have won this award,” he said. “It means a lot for me to be listed in that category. It was a total shock to me when I found out the news. I was really excited.”

Auburn men’s golf coach Mike Griffin had words of praise for Moseley and his accomplishments on the golf course and in the classroom, calling him an all-around person who did a little bit of everything.

Moseley finished his senior season with a 71.18 stroke average and was named first team All-Southeastern Conference (SEC), third team “Golfweek” All-American, honorable mention Ping All-American and Cleveland Golf All-American Scholar.

For his involvement with the community, Moseley was named to the 2008 SEC Community Service Team and received the Brad Smith SEC Community Service Award along with a $2,000 scholarship. He was named to the SEC Good Works Team three years.

During his senior year at Auburn, he carded a school record for 54 holes with a total of 201 at the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate Tournament, surpassing his previous mark of 202 at the John Burns Intercollegiate Tournament in Wahiawa, Hawaii.
