Megan Bell hit a free throw with just 12 seconds remaining in the game Monday in Valdosta to give the Bainbridge High School Lady Cats a 51-50 victory over the Coffee County High School Lady Trojans in the opening round of the Lowndes County High School Vikettes Tipoff Classic.

The Lady Trojans came down court and got a shot away in the final seconds, but it misfired.

The Lady Cats returned to action Tuesday, taking on Camden County High School in the Classic’s second round. They will conclude Classic play today when they take on Northside High School of Columbus at 2:30 p.m.

Lady Cats head coach Latreisha Moon said she thought her team had a good offensive effort against the Lady Trojans but struggled some defensively.

“We were up by 10 points at one time, but we let them get back into it,” Moon said. “We have got to work on our defense. We are not moving our feet like we should. We always do pretty good offensively, we have just got to get the defense straightened out. I thought we played hard on both ends of the floor.”

Game-clinching free thrower Bell was one of two Lady Cats in double figures Monday. The other was Alexis Burke with 14.

Zaikia Dawson and Bria Harris had six a piece, April Thomas and Lashawnda Middleton had four each, and Briana Wade had two.

Following the Classic, the Lady Cats will return to action Friday, Dec. 5, when they travel to Camilla to take on the Mitchell County High School Lady Eagles. Tipoff will be at 6 p.m.
