Tigers beat Eagles, 55-35

The West Bainbridge seventh-grade Lady Eagles and Eagles divided a pair of basketball games with the Hutto seventh-grade Lady Tigers and Tigers Tuesday at the West Bainbridge Gymnasium.

In the opener, the Lady Eagles, who are 1-1 overall, downed the Lady Tigers, who are 0-2 overall, 36-26.

In the nightcap, the Tigers, who are 2-0 overall, beat the Eagles, who are 1-1 overall, 55-35.

The Lady Eagles took a 10-4 first-quarter lead on four field goals by Beonka Madge and a field goal by Tearnec Harvin.

They led 15-13 at half-time and the score was tied 23-23 after three quarters. A seven-point fourth-quarter effort by Madge led the Lady Eagles to a 13-3 fourth-quarter scoring edge, enabling them to pull out the victory.

The Tigers got out to a strong start in the boys game, building a 20-4 lead at the end of the first quarter. Mike Jones had 18 first-quarter points for the Tigers.

A five-point scoring effort by Jarvis Kelly helped the Eagles outscore the Bearcats 11-10 in the second quarter and cut the half-time lead to 15, at 30-15.

The Tigers outscored the Eagles 15-9 in the third quarter to build their lead to 45-24 entering the fourth quarter. In the fourth quarter, they scored 11 and held the Tigers to 10.

The Lady Tigers and Tigers will return to action Friday when they travel to Whigham for games with the Whigham Middle School seventh-grade Lady Indians and Indians. The girls game will begin at 4 p.m. and the boys game will get underway at 5:45 p.m.
