The junior varsity Bearcats football team dropped a 28-0 decision to the Thomasville junior varsity Bulldogs Thursday in Thomasville.

The Bulldogs scored on a sweep around the right side from 30 yards out to take the early lead. They then ran in for the two-point conversion, and the Bearcats trailed 8-0 entering the second quarter.

The Bearcats got to the Bulldogs’ 40-yard line behind some strong runs by Jamario Brown in the second quarter, but that’s where the drive stalled.

The Bulldogs scored on a run from 20 yards out in the second quarter, but the Bearcats defense, led by linebacker Jaret Price, rose up to stop them short on the two-point conversion attempt, leaving the score 14-0 at halftime.

The score remained 14-0 following a third quarter in which both defenses rose to the occasion.

The Bulldogs then put the game away with two fourth-quarter touchdowns. The first came on a 20-yard run and the second came on a 30-yard pass. They ran in for a two-point conversion following the first score, but the Bearcats defense rose up to stop them short following the second score.

Tom Wheeler, who coaches the Jayvee Bearcats with Larry Cosby, said he thought the offense, led by Brown, and the defense, led by Price, played pretty well overall.

“We didn’t play that badly,” Wheeler said. “Thomasville got some big plays on us, but we also made some big defensive plays against them.”
