Davina Thomas is the 2008 Bainbridge High School Homecoming Queen, and Sarah Louise Wells is her Maid of Honor.

Miss Thomas was named and crowned at halftime of the homecoming game between the BHS Bearcats and Upson-Lee High School Knights Friday night at Centennial Field. BHS principal Tommie Howell presented the queen and maid of honor with bouquets of flowers.

The 18-year-old senior daughter of David and Fayetta Thomas, the new queen is a member of the three-time defending champion BHS Lady Cats track team and a member of the basketball cheerleading squad where she won the coaches award in 2007 and the most dependable award in 2008.

Miss Thomas is also a member of the Thomas University Pre-College Club and the Divine Revelation Outreach Center where she helps feed and clothe people in need.

The Maid of Honor, Miss Wells, the 17-year-old daughter of Ken and Mary Jane Wells, is a member of the Anchor Club and the National Honor Society and is a senior class representative on the student council.

Miss Wells is also Key Club sweetheart, a four-year member of the BHS Marching Bearcat Band dance line and a member of the First Presbyterian Church. She attended the National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine at Emory University and she was selected to attend Girls State by the American Legion Auxiliary.

The Homecoming Queen and Maid of Honor were selected by the number of votes of the entire student body from among the four senior girls in the court.

Other members of the Homecoming Court included senior attendant Kelsey Scott, 17-year-old daughter of Patricia King; senior attendant Julianne Leigh Mullis, 17-year-old daughter of Al and Georgia Mullis; junior attendant Kanesha Latrice Register, 16-year-old daughter of Steve Register Sr. and Janice Robinson; and junior attendant Mary Anna Dozier, 16-year-old daughter of Jim and Natalee Dozier.

Also in the Homecoming Court were sophomore attendant Bailey Manley, 15-year-old daughter of Kevin and Rhonda Manley; sophomore attendant Ti’Andria Burke, 15-year-old daughter of Grechelle Blocker and the late Charles Burke Sr.; freshman attendant Anye’ Raymonde Miller, 14-year-old daughter of Eric Miller and Sonya Barber Norris, and freshman attendant Macy Phillips, 14-year-old daughter of the Rev. Stanley and April Phillips.

Homecoming King Melzie Johnson, 18-year-old son of Melzie Johnson Sr. and Jannie Scott, is a three-year starter for the Bearcats football team and a two-year starter for the Bearcats basketball team. He has earned first team All-Region 1AAAA honors in both sports and he attends Freewill Baptist Church. He is also a member of the Thomas University Pre-College Club.

Thursday’s Homecoming parade, which took place during a steady rain, was led by grand marshal Vonda Hubbard, a business education teacher and the BHS teacher of the year.

The first-place float was from Potter Street Elementary School. Keeping with the parade theme of “Living the legacy, BHS through the decades,” the float had Elvis Presley singing and girls dancing.

The second-place float from Jones-Wheat Elementary School had children dressed in fashions from the 1950s through the 2000s. The third-place Family Careers and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) Skills USA float had dancers from various eras.
