Bainbridge High School Bearcats senior wide receiver James Hudson signed a national football letter of intent Thursday with the Albany State University Golden Rams.
Family and friends looking on as he signed in the school cafeteria were his parents James Hudson Sr. and Alesia Hudson; his sister, Kourtney Hudson; his young niece, Kourtlyn Campbell; his cousin, Michael Stubbs, and his best friend, Aubre Provence.
Also observing were Bearcats head football coach Ed Pilcher, BHS principal Tommie Howell and BHS guidance counselor Barbara Murrah.
Following the signing, coach Pilcher said Hudson, who played wide receiver, quarterback and defensive back during his Bearcats career, is an exceptional athlete who contributed a lot to the BHS football program the last four years.
This season, Hudson, who was an honorable mention All-Region 1AAAA selection, had 21 receptions for 337 yards and a touchdown. As a junior in 2008, he had four receptions for 136 yards and a touchdown and averaged 34 yards a reception.
Bearcats receivers coach Larry Cosby points out that Hudson is one of the most versatile players on the team.
“James Hudson came up with some big catches for us in his career,” Cosby said. “Whenever we needed a big catch, you could depend on him to get open and make it. He has good speed and he does a good job of running his routes and getting open.”
Hudson, who is 6-feet-1, also plays forward on coach Rickey McCullough’s Bearcats basketball team.
