Lady Cats go to 19-2

The Bainbridge High School Lady Cats defeated the Lee County Lady Trojans 67-50 Friday night and downed the Cairo Syrupmaids 66-47 Saturday night to improve their Region 1AAAA record to 3-0 and their overall mark to 19-2.
Both games were played at the Bainbridge High School Gymnasium.
Friday in their Region 1AAAA match-up with Lee County’s Lady Trojans, the Lady Cats jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead on two free throws by Brianna Wade at the 5:35 mark and a jumper in the lane by Alexis Burke at the 5:13 mark.
Burke and April Thomas combined for 46 points Friday night against the Lady Trojans. Burke led the way with 29, and April Thomas scored 17.
Kelly Polk with 12 and Daguenna Moore with 10 led the Lady Trojans.
Saturday against Cairo, the Lady Cats went on a 12-0 first-quarter run to break a 3-3 tie and go up 15-3.
Thomas’ three-point jumper just 38 seconds into the game put the Lady Cats ahead 3-0, but the Syrupmaids countered with a La Heyshia Barber three-point jumper at the 7:01 mark to pull even 3-3.
Brianna Wade hit two free throws at the 6:36 mark to put the Lady Cats up 5-3. The lead quickly moved to 11-3 when Bria Harris grabbed a rebound and put it back in at the 6:08 mark. Thomas hit a layup off at the 5:47 mark, and Burke hit a jumper in the lane at the 5:18 mark.
The 12-0 run concluded with a rebound and stick back by Harris at the 4:36 mark, and a layup by Burke at the 4:14 mark.
The Syrupmaids scored the next four points to cut it to 15-7, and Dominique Davis hit a layup off the left glass at the 3:30 mark and a jumper at the 3:05 mark to cut it to 15-7.
A three-point jumper by Thomas at the 3:38 mark and a layup off the left glass by Burke quickly got the Lady Cats’ led back out to double digits at 20-7. They were ahead 24-12 at the end of the first quarter.
Leading by just five, 30-25, with 4:18 left in the second quarter, the Lady Cats went on an 8-2 run to build a 38-27 halftime lead. Just before the run, Quan Saderry hit a jumper to cut it to three, at 30-27.
Burke began the run with a layup off the left glass at the 1:43 mark. It continued with a layup off the right glass by Bria Harris at the 1:38 mark and a layup off the left glass by Burke at the 54-second mark and concluded with jumper in the lane by Burke at the 34-second mark.
Burke led the Lady Cats in scoring Saturday night with 28 points. Thomas pumped in 20, Harris scored 12 and Brianna Wade scored 6.
Dominique Davis led the Syrupmaids with 11, and La Heyshia Barber added 11.
