Fair to provide variety of entertainment

The annual Bainbridge-Decatur County Chamber of Commerce’s Fall Festival and Fair—featuring rides, attractions livestock shows, contests and concerts—will be Tuesday through Friday, Nov. 3-7.

Family Amusement Attractions of Valdosta will provide the midway rides and attractions for a third consecutive year. Gate admission will be $4 and arm bands allowing entrants to ride all midway rides, will be $16.

Before Tuesday, $3 admission tickets and $12 arm bands can be purchased at the Chamber of Commerce, all local banks, Bainbridge Pharmacy, the Welcome Center and RX Drug Center.

Old-fashioned days will be observed at the fair, and there will be two livestock shows at the Cloud Livestock Pavilion. They will get underway at 6 p.m.

On Tuesday there will be a breeding gilts show, judged by Dennis Kendrick, vocational agriculture teacher at Turner County High School in Ashburn, and on Thursday there will be a market steer and heifer show judged by Michael Berry, Young Farmer teacher at Coffee County High School in Douglas. There will be no admission to the livestock shows.

Gates will open at 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and at 4 p.m. Saturday. The fair will be open until 10 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, until 11 p.m. Friday and until 12 p.m. Saturday.

There will be approximately 60 exhibitors in the two livestock shows from Decatur, Seminole, Miller. Grady, Mitchell and Baker counties.

The Leigh Mullis Band will perform Friday at 7:15 p.m., and Tina Brock will perform Saturday at 6:30 p.m. Both performances will be in front of the old Decatur County Livestock Arena.

There will be racing pig shows beginning at 7 p.m. every day, and the Bainbridge Pilot Club will be at the fair to finger print children.

There will be judging in various food item categories as well. Last year pies, cakes, jams and jellies were judged and this year breads, relishes and fruits have been added.

For kids, there will be a program by the Tallahassee Museum, a medieval fight and a program by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

Back many years ago I was amember of the Jaycees and we worked very hard every year at the fair. Later I ran abusiness here in Bainbridge and that's when I found out how much money the fair took out of Bainbridge each year without putting anything in. Since that time I have not nor will I support fair week.

Can't wait! We have our winning cake recipe ready to be baked fresh thursday night and hoping we can get at least an honorable mention!
