The Georgia High School Association (GHSA) Reclassification Committee placed teams in regions during a Wednesday meeting at GHSA headquarters in Thomaston, Ga.

The new reclassification would keep Bainbridge High School in Region 1-AAAA along with fellow current members Thomas County Central, Harris County, Lee County and Hardaway of Columbus.

New members in what would be a nine-team region would be Warner Robins, Northside of Warner Robins, Northside of Columbus and Houston County.

Current Region 1-AAAA members Westside-Macon and Americus-Sumter dropped down to AAA. Jones County moved to 3-AAAA and Upson-Lee moved to 4-AAAA.

High schools were assigned to classifications in November based on their enrollment numbers.

At the meeting, the GHSA Reclassification Committee proposed amending GHSA bylaws to continue reviewing the region classifications every two years, instead of every four years, as had been proposed.

Under GHSA bylaws, a school may appeal its region placement and ask for lateral transfer to another region in their classification. The appeal meeting will be held on Dec. 16 in Thomaston. The classifications will be finalized on Jan. 12, 2010, at a meeting in Forsyth, Ga.
