Bainbridge High School Bearcats sophomore offensive lineman Blair Nix, son of Wendell and Carla Nix of Bainbridge, recently attended a Football University (FBU) Camp in Atlanta.
He was chosen to attend the invitation-only camp by one of the scouting agents hired by FBU to find talented football players in all regions of the United States.
In 2009, FBU conducted 32 camps in the United States and three in foreign countries.
Each camp invited 130 ninth- through 12th-graders and 50 seventh- and eighth-graders. The camps are coached by former National Football League (NFL) coaches and players including two former Atlanta Falcons, quarterback Chris Miller and wide receiver Andre Rison.
Nix’s coach was former Indianapolis Colts tight ends coach Tony Marciano.
Nix made the prestigious ninth- and 10th-grade Top Gun group. At the conclusion of all 32 FBU camps in the United States, three Top Gun classes are chosen. Each class consists of only 80 players chosen from various football positions.
Nix was the youngest of only seven offensive linemen in the nation chosen for the ninth- and 10th-grade Top Gun group.
Top Gun players are chosen based on size, speed, agility drills, one-on-one contact drills, high definition video analysis, and their FBU coaches recommendations. Nix attended Top Gun Camp July 26-28 at the All-Star Sports Training facility in Paisley, Fla.. where he was coached by former Buffalo Bills offensive line coach Jim McNally, who coached 28 years in the NFL.
All FBU athletes will have their profile posted on Rivals.com and one-on-one videos are provided to the Forbes 400 colleges.
The top rising senior FBU athletes compete for the chance to play in the Army All-American Bowl, which will be played in San Antonio, Texas, in January, 2010. It will be aired on NBC Television.
