Ruth Nikkel Kight, 85, of Bainbridge, Ga., formerly of Starkville, Miss., passed away Wednesday, March 22, 2017.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 26, 2017, at Ivey Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be held at Arlington Cemetery in Arlington, TN, at 1 p.m. CST on Monday, March 27, 2017.

Ruth Nikkel was born June 27, 1931, in Caddo County, Oklahoma, the daughter of Walter Martin Nikkel and Ruth Lau Nikkel. She was a graduate of Alfalfa School, Class of 1949, and an honor graduate of Southwestern Oklahoma State University. In 1956 she married the love of her life, Troy Gene Kight. Ruth retired as an executive assistant for the 4-H Extension Office after also serving with the Mississippi State Agriculture and Extension Education Department. She spent the last fifteen years in Bainbridge and was a member of Grace Church.

Ruth was featured in the Dallas newspaper detailing her incredible speed in shorthand. Ruth also shared her typing and shorthand skills with students at Siena College in Memphis. Ruth’s faith in Christ as her Savior was central to her life and her walk made her a mentor and great influence on many people. Her kind and loving spirit is acknowledged by her children and grandchildren, as they reminisce about her as a mom and grandmother.

Survivors include her daughters, Lisa Ann Kight of Arlington, Tenn. and Meredith Lynn Kight Carraway and her husband, Daniel, of Bainbridge; her brother, Roy Nikkel of McLoud, Okla.; her sister-in-law, Myrna Nikkel; her grandchildren, Lauren, Aaron and Ruth Marie Carraway; her two nieces and her three nephews. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 56 years, Troy Gene Kight; her brothers, Bobby Nikkel and Jerry Nikkel; and her sister-in-law, Mary Nikkel.
