Meet three of the teams behind Bainbridge’s Dancing With the Stars

On Saturday, April 30, 2016, the Charles H. Kirbo Regional Center at Bainbridge State College will be the scene of the Bainbridge Rotary Club’s Dancing With The Bainbridge Stars. This first time event promises to be filed with fun and excitement as Bainbridge’s very own Celebrity Dancers entertain. The event starts at 7:30 pm. Emcees for the evening are Dr. Suzy Bonifay and Brent Loeffler. Tickets can be purchased at the Edward D. Jones Office of Emily Yent or at Burke, Worsham and Harrell. Tickets are $20 each (under 3 free) and can be purchased at the door.

Event organizer Marjorie Mayfield says the lineup is set with six teams competing for the Judges Choice Award, Onsite Fundraising Award and the People’s Choice Award. The public can help determine the winner by voting for their favorite team, thereby supporting Bainbridge Rotary Club’s efforts to raise funds to purchase a Tele-Health System for one of Decatur County’s elementary schools.

Online voting can be found at www.dwtbs2016.myevent.com. Each dollar donated is one vote for your favorite team. The team who raises the most money online will be crowned the People’s Choice Award. Online voting continues until midnight April 29, 2016. Each team will also have a collection vessel at the event for onsite voting. Bring your checks, coins and dollars to vote for your favorite team the night of the event for the On Site Fundraising award. Three judges will pick the Judges Choice Award.

Of the six teams, the first three are appearing in this edition. The additional three teams will be published in the Wednesday, April 20 edition.

Blake Carruthers and Marjorie Mayfield

Blake Carruthers is a Physical Education Educator at Jones Wheat Elementary School in Bainbridge, Head Coach of the Seventh Grade Bainbridge Bearcat football team and the Defensive Coordinator for the Eight Grade Bearcat team. Coach Carruthers was born in Moultrie, Georgia in 1977. His football career began with the Colquitt County Packers. After graduating High School in 1996, he attended Auburn University and played center. He completed his education degree and football career at Troy University in Alabama. Over the past decade Coach Carruthers has educated, coached, and mentored the youth of Decatur County.

Marjorie Mayfield has lived in Bainbridge for 23+ years. She is the COO at Burke, Worsham and Harrell, LLC, a local CPA firm. She is married to Stephen and has three children, Amanda/Mike, Blake/Jenny, Stephanie and one grandchild, Mason. Her dance background stems back to her days as a cheerleader and Golduster at Abraham Baldwin College and as a warm-up dancer in Albany, Georgia. She is a member of Rotary, a Paul Harris Fellow, Decatur County’s Woman of the Year for 2012, and one of Bainbridge Living Magazine’s Women to Watch.

Landin Marzolf, D.C. and Haley Humphrey

Dr. Landin J. Marzolf was born in San Diego, Calif.. He graduated high school from Lakeside High School in Augusta, Georgia in 1995. In 2002 Dr. Marzolf graduated from Auburn University with a degree in Microbiology. Dr. Marzolf then attended doctorate school at Sherman College of Chiropractic in Spartanburg S.C. were he graduated with honors.

In 2007, Dr. Marzolf acquired Care Chiropractic Center and has loved serving the community ever since. Dr. Marzolf is an active member of the Georgia Chiropractic Association, and is also an Active board member at the First National Bank of Decatur County. Dr. Marzolf enjoys his family, fishing and going to the beach.

Haley Danielle Humphrey, originally from Thomasville Georgia, began her training at age two with the Carolyn Ellis School of Dance of Tifton Georgia. She continued her studies in dance and gymnastics at the Thomasville YMCA, The Dance Studio of Thomasville, the Pink Slipper and No Limitz Gymnastics of Leesburg, and Rhapsody Review of Marietta Georgia, where she is still a current company member. In Orlando, Florida she danced with Dancer’s Pointe of Winter Park, and began her auditioning process with the Walt Disney Company. After returning home, she continued her studies at Valdosta State University. In November of 2015 she married her husband Jared. She is currently a dance, gymnastics instructor at Lucretia’s School of Dance of Bainbridge.

Jay (Jaybird) Palmer and Susan Livingston-Higdon

Jay “bird’ Palmer is the co-host of the Jesus and Jammin’ morning radio show on WBGE in Bainbridge. He and his wife Amy have four daughters and seven grandchildren, with one on the way.

Susan Livingston Higdon has enjoyed a professional career as a performer, choreographer and director with Holland America Cruise Lines and Marcelo Productions, where she met her husband Sam. Together they have performed on many cruises including the Grand Voyage World Cruise aboard the S.S. Rotterdam. One of the highlights of Susan’s career was working with Tony Award Winning Choreographer Wayne Cilento. Susan has taught and judged for many national dance competitions including Dance Theatre USA and Hoctor’s National Dance Caravan where she also directed the caravan kids program Susan has been the resident choreographer for Bainbridge Little Theatre for the past 14 years and has choreographed numerous musicals some of which include Carousel, Oklahoma, Fiddler on the Roof, Guys and Dolls, Pajama Game and Gypsy. Susan resides in Tallahassee, Florida with her family.
